Collections and Archives

In conformity with its mission to gather, catalogue, safeguard, and, above all, "bring to life" the great cultural legacy that represents Italy's wealth, the Beic Foundation has pressed ahead with two important acquisitions: the Giuseppe Pontiggia Fund, Library and Archive, and the Paolo Monti Photograph Archive.

The Giuseppe Pontiggia Fund, composed of the writer's library and personal archive, is a collection of books and documents of great value which includes some 35,000 volumes accumulated during his lifetime. The entire library has now been catalogued and is kept in a depot at Lacchiarella in the province of Milan.

Paolo Monti is a key figure in the history of photography in the second half of the twentieth century. The historical materials acquired were transferred to the Castello Sforzesco, where they will be stored pending their definitive placement, in accordance with an agreement arrived at between the municipality of Milan and the Beic Foundation. The inventory and catalogue of the Paolo Monti Fund was completed in 2009. A selection of approximately 20,000 photographs will shortly be put online.
