The BEIC Foundation

Legally recognized on February 6, 2004, the Fondazione Biblioteca Europea di Informazione e Cultura is a foundation that promotes, develops and spreads expressions of culture and art, pursuing the aims of instruction and education by creating and managing the European Library of Information and Culture (BEIC). In its first phase, the foundation wishes to promote, organize and manage the design and creation of the BEIC library and, in its second phase, to manage all its activities.

Consistently with the aforementioned points, the foundation strives to conceive, support, promote, organize and finance projects and events of all kinds, including integrated interdisciplinary research pertaining to cultural and social information, assets and expressions related to cultural heritage and the world of books and multimedia.

In pursuing these aims, the foundation intends to promote and foster relationships with local, regional, national and international institutions and with important figures, artists, and Italian and foreign cultural institutions that could contribute to the fulfillment of the activities that the BEIC manages and to the development of book culture in all of its expressions.

Its founding members are: the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage [Ministero dei Beni Culturali]; the Milan City Council [Comune di Milano]; the Region of Lombardy [Regione Lombardia]; the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research [Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca]; the University of Milan [Università degli Studi di Milano]; the Politecnico di Milano; the Lombardy Academy of Science and Humanities [Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere]; and the Milano Biblioteca del 2000 Association.

The President of the foundation is Prof. Antonio Padoa Schioppa and its General Manager is Dr. Francesca Della Porta.
